Phase 2 of My International MoveWritten by Jeffrey Bennett
Today marks the second phase of my move to Manila, Philippines. I just arrived in San Francisco, California where I have a little over 24 hours.
The first thing on my to-do list today is to meet with a friend who’s building a tech startup. I can’t say much about it since I don’t yet have permission to talk in detail. But I’m excited about his work, so I’ll talk about it later once he’s ready.
Anyway, we are meeting at one of my favorite areas of downtown San Francisco called Yerba Buena Gardens.
Today couldn’t possibly be a more beautiful day! It’s sunny, warm, clear and you can smell the sweet fragrance of the flowers blowing in the breeze.
Days like this make me miss San Francisco even more, but I’m so glad this was my last day!
I may not be very mobile today though since I am carrying everything I am moving with in my two carry-on bags. They’re much heavier than I’m used to as an ultra-minimalist traveler (normally, I have just a small backpack with extra room).
But since this is a move, I have to be a bit more thorough. Even still, I’m getting rid of 95% of my belongings in this move, and that feels really good!
For some people, moving internationally is the biggest undertaking of their lives. I’m viewing this as an opportunity for a major change in not just location, but way of life too. Things are going to be drastically different for me from here on, whether I like it or not.
Fortunately, I thrive on change, so I have hope! Regardless, this will be an amazing adventure and I am so excited to start!
